Director of Sales

Location: Calgary, Alberta

 

MANDATE

The Director of Sales is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the local sales team to meet/exceed sales objectives through increased profitable sales growth in line with Sysco’s vision and values. Responsible for sales within seven districts encompassing all of Southern Alberta and the East Kootenays, the Director of Sales will lead a high performing sales team in growing and maintaining market share within a highly competitive industry.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The position will include the following responsibilities:

  • As a member of the senior management team, drive the strategic direction of the local sales function through the establishment, communication and maintenance of key performance indicators, including the generation of new business, existing account development, regaining lost business and maintaining gross margin
  • Effectively lead, coach and mentor a geographically dispersed sales team, while also ensuring adherence to organizational principles and best practices
  • Play a lead role in developing key defined markets, acting as the ‘face of Sysco’ at regular new/existing client visits, customer and vendor appreciation events, as well as representing the company within the community
  • Earn the trust and respect of the team and client base, through composure in the face of adversity and the ability to adapt within a fast paced and dynamic industry
  • Translate value for the client through stand out service, reliability and intimate knowledge of their business
  • Prepare an annual operating plan and lead the sales team to meet/exceed planned sales growth, including sales, margin, margin dollars, service levels and A/R currency
  • Support the recruitment of talent, building a sales team to support Sysco and customers into the future
  • Research, develop and execute innovative and strategic initiatives to drive positive results in support of profit plan goals
  • Demonstrate a knowledgeable 360° view of the business and the ability to collaborate constructively, creating solutions to business challenges with other departments (warehouse, delivery, finance, credit, etc.)
  • Contribute to and support continuous improvement of work climate and employee engagement, fostering an environment where open and timely communication is offered, sought and valued
  • Ensure effective multi-level and cross-functional communication is delivered in a timely manner within all districts and between departments
  • Maintain sound industry knowledge and seek opportunities to translate and implement trends in support of the Sysco business, now and in the future

  • Grow market share through the management of team KPI’s and the development of business within new, existing and former clients, while continually seeking to grow gross margin

 

 CANDIDATE PROFILE

 The successful candidate will have the following:

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or culinary degree, with 5+ years of sales management experience and 7+ years of food service sales experience, or an equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
  • Demonstrates mastery of skills in the areas of consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching and negotiations
  • Ability to attend after-hours events and to travel frequently within the sales territory
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs and CRM tools
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate strength in the following competencies: planning and organizing, coaching, communication, building partnerships, customer focus, sales ability, change management and follow up
  • Proven ability to thrive under tight deadlines while successfully managing a multitude of projects simultaneously
  • High level of energy, highly self-motivated, driven by the achievement of objectives
  • Valid vehicle operator’s license
