Vice President, Major Projects - #4642

The Role
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Projects, the Vice President, Major Project will be accountable to lead the construction of a double circuit 500kV transmission line, which will connect the Heartland region (northeast of Fort Saskatchewan) to existing 500kV transmission facilities.
As Vice President, Major Project, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team, drawing from the breadth of the entire corporation, and be accountable for the entire project from inception through to initial operation. Your team will include Project Managers, Project Control Specialists, Regulatory, Consultation, Siting, Land, Communications, Government Relations, and First Nations Relations staff.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leadership, coordination and direction of Project Team.
- Primary project interface with Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and EPCOR.
- Development of project delivery strategies, inclusive of all aspects of the project initiation and development/permitting phases.
- Prime accountability for Budget, Schedule, Scope, Control, Quality and Safety as it relates to the project.
- Executive interface and reporting of status.
- Owner’s oversight and management of EPC contractor and/or other key suppliers to the Project(s).
- Direction and mentorship of Project Manager(s).
The Person
To be successful, the ideal candidate should possess the following education, skills and experience:
- Appropriate combination of experience and education necessary to achieve the mandate.
- Minimum of 15 years experience in Project Management with demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects with budgets of over $500 million (PMP preferred).
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills – the ability to successfully lead the project while maintaining a positive, respectful, team oriented culture.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a project through the Regulatory/Permitting process.
- Experience in providing the interface between Senior Corporate executive and the Project team.
- Experience in linear infrastructure type projects is an asset.
- Familiarity and experience with the Alberta Electrical Regulatory Compact is highly desirable.
- An action/results-oriented initiator who is able to maintain a positive attitude and outgoing demeanor during times of ambiguity or rapid change.
